From the Executive Director

KSA Executive Director Travis McCready

Welcome to Cambridge and Kendall Square, the product and evolution of imagination and innovation.  Since Cambridge’s incorporation in 1845, the city has stood apart as the nation’s original innovation cluster.  From poets to scientists, artists to engineers, innovation and creativity have been a part of the “Cambridge Way” since day one.  In this we have been consistent - our community has always held scientific, technological and entrepreneurial efforts in high regard.

Even in this dynamic environment, Kendall Square, Cambridge is unique - it has been called by many “the most innovative square mile on the planet.”  We are home to more tech and biotech companies per square mile than anywhere else on the planet.  Countless innovations that changed the course of humanity and commerce were born here - including the sewing machine, radar, quinine, mass-produced penicillin, the decoded human genome, and Google’s Android operating system, to name but a few.  Research, innovation, collaboration and commercialization...it’s what we do best...it’s what we do every day.

The Kendall Square Association is a membership based organization of companies who have chosen to locate here in Kendall Square and have a vested interest in maintaining the vibrancy and vitality of this area for generations to come.  Our members include Amgen, Biogen, the Broad Institute, Google, MIT, Microsoft, Novartis, Genzyme, VMWare, the Whitehead Institute, and many more.  We advocate for and help create conditions where innovation and entrepreneurship will continue to take root, by hosting networking and other meetings of topical relevance to our members, and working to ensure that Kendall Square remains a dynamic place to live, work and play.  I invite you to explore this website, learn more about Kendall Square, the Association, and what makes us a unique destination globally.

Sincerely,

Travis McCready, Executive Director
